I would wager to say that before we became Network Marketing Distributors or Affiliates, at some stage of our upbringing or education we heard or were taught  “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you“.

In his book titled “From Selling to Serving“, Lou Cassara suggests the Golden Rule with a twist:  “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, only do it first”.  In today’s message from the Napoleon Hill Foundation, the message was titled “WILLING COOPERATION PRODUCES ENDURING POWER, WHILE FORCED COOPERATION ENDS IN FAILURE.

Within that message were these lines:

…..The best way to secure the commitment and unending cooperation of others is through the simple application of the Golden Rule. It is the most successful and long-lasting management theory ever developed. When you treat others as you would like to be treated were you in their situation, you will inspire loyalty and enthusiastic cooperation………  (This positive message is brought to you by the Napoleon Hill Foundation. Let’s look at prospecting.

The traditional method is to make a list of friends and family.  Then your upline says something like, “OK, now let’s go pound your list and get them sighed up.”.   Sometimes we are taught, “no doesn’t always mean no”… “99 no’s will bring you to that “yes”.  “Don’t take no for an answer”.  Then there are a multitude of ‘closing’ techniques we are taught.

There is much talk about having a duplicatable system for success.  I have learned over the years that making a list of friends and family may have been the only method for years and years, but it is not duplicatable by the masses any more than buying leads is.  Yes, some will be successful, but many more will not.

When I began searching my soul for reasons why I was struggling, I realized I had joined my first network marketing business because I did believe in the concept of network marketing, leverage, time freedom.   However, I did not like the recruitment method.  I guess it never dawned on me at the time I joined that I would be expected to use this same method with others.

I struggled for several years because I felt the prospecting approach was almost one of bullying in many cases, or one of cold indifference to other’s feelings, or overly aggressive, almost zealous approaches.  When we are uncomfortable with how we are doing something, we do not take the action required and then there is little success to be found.  And when we look at the failure rate in Network Marketing home based businesses, I know that I am not the only one who struggled with acting out of character.

If this had been the only method of building a home based business, I would have quit right then and there. Luckily for me I eventually stumbled upon great successful Mentors, such as Tom “Big Al” Schreiter for face to face marketing and Mentoring For Free for successful marketing online.

Both teach a duplicatable system and the style of marketing that fits with my character and belief in the Golden Rule:  “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” ….. essentially Napoleon Hill’s concept of “…… treat others as you would like to be treated….. “

If you are spending your time organizing your paper clips, or getting ready to get ready, or organizing your day planner instead of making contact with others, STOP and look at the method your are being taught to use.  You may very well discover that the methods your are being taught fall outside of how you would want to be treated.

To Your SUCCESS,
