WOW!  Talk about an exceptional Marketing Campaign.  Even though the slogan "Can listen2you hear me now?" was created by Verizon back in 2002 or so, we still find ourselves  saying it eight years later ……… and still on a regular basis.

Used to be that the phone might be out of range or perhaps the quality was not so good.  Those days are gone.  Now days I have to ask…   Are we "All In" to the conversation?

Test Your Listening Habits -   from Michael Oliver’s Book – Here is a short test that will give you an idea of your own Listening Habits  -

When you’re listening to someone :

1- Do you think of other things while you’re keeping track of the conversation?  Y —  N

2- Do you think about what you’re going to say next?    Y      N

3- Do you listen with the intent to reply rather than with the intent to understand?   Y     N

4- Do you break in with your own ideas before the other person has finished talking?   Y….N

5- Do you listen primarily to facts rather than ideas?    Y….N

6- Do you " tune out " to things that you feel will be too difficult to understand?   Y….N

7- Do you try to make it appear you’re paying attention when you’re not?  Y….N

8- Do certain words or phrases prejudice you so that you don’t listen objectively?   Y….N

9- Do your thoughts turn to other things when you believe a speaker will have nothing particularly interesting to say? Y….N

10- Do you finish other people’s sentences?  Y….N

11 Can you tell from a person’s appearance and delivery that he/she won’t have anything important to say?    Y….N

12- Are you distracted by outside sights and sounds? Y….N

If you answered NO to all of these questions, you are one of a kind !

Good listening habits can be learned!

listen1 (Thank you Susie for passing this list on to me a couple of months ago. I read it regularly)

Even though "Can you hear me now"  is probably what we remember the most about the marketing campaigns Verizon started using in 2002 … The real ‘sell’ for Verizon was ""We never stop working for you,"  —   Well, our ears never stop working for us either… IF we chose to engage them for their designed use.

To Your Success,

  1. Thanks Jennifer for sharing this post for listening. Listening is one of the biggest skills we can learn as network marketers. What does our prospect want, not what do we want. Listen to their answers and then respond accordingly. They may be telling us right up front that they do not want or need our help. But they may also be saying just not right now. ~ Darlene

  2. So true, Darlene, and if we are not listening, how are we to know what someone else really needs or wants.

I don’t know that we stress near enough the importance of this and that “Listening” is a skill.

  3. It is again and agani amazing, Jennifer, to see that people who were endowed with 2 ears and only 1 mouth by nature still don’t get the hint :)

Thanks for this “again” good reminder!
